There are a lot of users on TikTok, over a billion, but not a lot of brands have created a TikTok presence. It can be intimidating to create effective video content, but it’s easier than it seems, and a lot of fun! Creating a TikTok video is easy and fun and great for brand awareness.
Getting Started
To get started on TikTok create an account for your business if you don’t already have one created. You’d be surprised by the number of users who have an account, but no content. Creating an account is pretty simple. If you have a business Google account, Facebook, Twitter, or Apple you can use that account to create a TikTok account. You can also use an email and create an account that way, this way will also prompt you to create a password.
The next step is to choose your user name, you probably want something that is your business name. If you have other social media accounts such as Twitter and Instagram, try to use the same user name.
From there you can sync your contacts to find friends on the app. TikTok will also prompt you to add a profile picture, add to your bio, and your name. You can also link other accounts to your profile, your website, or your link tree.
Creating a TikTok Video
Now that you have your account set up, it’s time to create your first TikTok. To get started hit the + sign button at the bottom of your screen. You can either upload a video-created and edited outside of the app, you can start recording, or add clips and edit them within the app. If you are recording you can choose to make a 15-second, 60-second, or 3-minute video. TikTok now allows you to upload up to 10 minutes of video.
If you want to add music to your video you can tap the button at the top of the screen. TikTok will recommend tracks based on the content of your video, but you can also search for sounds if you don’t like the recommended ones.
Add effects, stickers, or text to your videos by tapping the options on the right-hand menu. If your video contains speaking, add captions to improve accessibility. Recommend you go through the captions and edit if needed to ensure the captions picked up what is being said correctly.
Once you are done editing your video, tap the next button at the bottom of the screen. Once you are on the next screen you can add a caption, add hashtags, tag other accounts, and adjust settings. The settings include “Allow Duet” which allows other users to create a split screen TikTok using your video, “Allow Stitch” which allows users to edit clips of your video into their own, and “Select Cover” to adjust which still of your video will appear on your feed.
Lastly, now it is time to post and you did it!
